InfoSkilled

Information literacy is the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning. These valuable abilities are very essential and libraries are playing an important role in helping students acquire these necessary skills.

-McTavish & Robertson, (2020); Ramos Eclevia, (2022).

The aim of this program is to equip individuals with knowledge and skills in accessing information effectively and efficiently and to develop information-literate individuals through a series of learning activities geared toward lifelong learning.

The scope of the program entails the necessary information literacy skills that foster life-long learning such as IDENTIFY, FIND, EVALUATE, and ACKNOWLEDGE information.

This component discusses the library orientation and is intended for freshmen students and other new members of the user community. This will familiarize the participants with the necessary knowledge of accessing library resources and services that may aid them in acquiring information literacy skills by attending other InfoSkilled components. Its recommended schedule is during the first semester of every academic year and will be offered by both the main library and unit libraries. For uniformity of presentation, a standard module will outline the important topics to be discussed.

InfoSkilled focuses on the four major information literacy skills namely, IDENTIFY, FIND, EVALUATE, and ACKNOWLEDGE.

InfoLit Advanced sessions are required to be offered by the university library during the second semester and optional in the first semester. The topics can be based on the standard advanced modules or from specialized related topics delivered by guest lecturers. This should be decided based on the results of the test activities of the InfoLite and the evaluation of the previous sessions. Measuring the participants’ learning is always part of the evaluation of each session. All the presented topics of InfoLit Advanced are recorded for monitoring and evaluation of the whole program.
